Menzies Distribution has become one of NewstrAid’s corporate sponsors for 2024, helping to support the charity’s ongoing work with people who are, or have been, employed in the sale and distribution of newspapers and magazines and who are going through difficult times.
Pamela Abbott, Menzies’ CSR Committee Chair said, “Menzies is extremely proud to work with NewstrAid in support of the people who produce, distribute, sell and deliver newspapers and magazines, day in and day out.
“In 2023 alone, NewstrAid supported 1,486 people in the newspaper and magazine industry and 146 children in need – all of us at Menzies feel privileged to work with such a fantastic cause. We are looking forward to getting behind other fundraising activity that also boosts employee morale – starting with the charity’s 185th Anniversary Scavenger Hunt!”
Neil Jagger, CEO for NewstrAid said: “Menzies Distribution are a much-valued supporter of NewstrAid and their involvement as a corporate sponsor will help to support hundreds of beneficiaries from the trade who are struggling financially and emotionally.”
2023 was one of the busiest years for NewstrAid as people around the country found themselves in financial difficulties due to the cost of living crisis.
Neil Jagger added: “Menzies’ sponsorship has come at a vital time for our industry as more and more people are in need, having run into debt on their bills last year. Since its launch at the end of 2022, we have already helped more than 260 people with a grant from our Cost of Living Crisis Fund, and the scheme will continue through 2024. Sponsorship like this from Menzies will allow us to assist even more people from the newstrade who are facing hardship and need help.”
2024 marks NewstrAid’s 185th anniversary year and Menzies have been a long term supporter of the charity with a descendant of the company’s founder, John Menzies, holding the role of Charity President during its history.
